Happy 2023. Here's to a new year of food, drink and good health.

We’re starting off the new year with a variety of foodie stories. In a celebration of the rich multicultural melting pot that is the Illawarra, I chat to Croatian-born Malfalda (Draga) Zubovic about her upbringing, her life in Australia and her connection to Croatian food. I join Draga, her daughter Anita and granddaughter Betty in the family kitchen to learn how to make the Croatian celebration dish, Sarma.

I visit the newly restored Imperial Hotel Clifton for a delicious lunch and immerse myself in the history of the establishment and its place in the local community.

I also seek out the friendliest of dog-friendly eating venues and take a look at what’s in season in the world of fruit and vegetables.
