Indie rockers Left Lane release new single ‘Butterfly’

Today, June 30, Left Lane has released new single Butterfly from its cocoon, and it’ll certainly put some butterflies in your stomach. The song mixes the feeling of finding who you are and finding new love, with a touch of nervous uncertainty.

Before we spread the wings of Butterfly, here’s what you need to know about Left Lane. We are a four-piece band from Wollongong making modern indie-rock for the brain and the booty. If you’ve been to local gigs in the Gong, you’re sure to have come across us at some point.

Taking influence from classic acts such as Wolf Alice, King Gizzard and Foo Fighters, we’ve landed on a uniquely groovy indie sound with a little twist of math rock and psychedelia. Left Lane’s songs shift from soft and emotive moments to punchy exclamations, driving rock beats and the occasional ripping solo that listeners of Aussie indie-rock know and love.

Says something about local music?

The stylistic contrast of grunge-tinged rock sounds to groovy and bittersweet indie has grown and emerged with the release of Butterfly, recorded right here in Wollongong at DROP. studios.

The single cover for Butterfly

This song emerged when I went through a large change in my life. It is a connection to a place I was in when I realised who I am not and who I can be. I also connected with someone who changed my perspective on life completely. It is nostalgic, it is bittersweet, it is a whole world in five minutes.

My chorus lyrics capture the essence of the song, saying “I want to paint with colours, I want to paint with sound, I want to paint the world with everything I have found.”

I have seen the beauty in aspects of my life, and want to spread this beauty and hope into the world while also letting go of my old self. Like butterflies do, I came out of the cocoon to embrace what I truly want to be.

This song is for anyone who likes magical melodies with a heavier backbeat. It has an unforgettable drive that will leave you pondering what it means to you, and nodding your head along in the process. The song’s atmospheric beginning draws in some suspense before exploding into a wall of colour and sound, accompanied by emotive verses and catchy choruses.

Our band have poured their hearts into this new song, and want the world to hear it, or at least their local world.

Hear the song fresh from its cocoon on Wednesday, July 5 at La La La’s in Wollongong. We'll be launching our new single, playing alongside fellow local bands Blackout Fun Club and Denim on Her.
