The much-loved Combined Churches Carols in the Burgh returns on Saturday, 6 December, promising an uplifting evening of Christmas spirit, community celebration and family entertainment.

This free outdoor event will take place at Helensburgh Park/Rex Jackson Oval (behind Tradies Helensburgh). Festivities begin at 6:00pm with family entertainment, food stalls, backyard games and community displays.

The Carols program commences at 7:00pm, featuring live music and special guests, before the night concludes with a spectacular 8:30pm fireworks finale.

This year also marks an exciting new milestone with the Helensburgh Public School choir and drumming group performing for the first time, adding fresh energy and showcasing local young talent.

Assistant Minister of the Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Anglican Church, Matt Leach, said the carols continue to bring moments of joy and hope to the community.

“The Carols is one of those unexpected moments that brings me joy and is a great way to begin the festive season.

"This year I’m especially excited to have the Helensburgh Public School choir and drumming group involved for the first time. Their excitement has worn off on me – it’s a great opportunity for them and an even greater encouragement for us all.”

Leach added: “The birth of Jesus is good news for everyone. The Carols gives people the chance to sing, hear the Christmas story, and be welcomed by the churches of our area as we prepare for Christmas.”

Helensburgh Baptist Church Pastor Brad Blacker emphasised the importance of unity and celebration.

“I’m excited about the whole community getting together for Christmas. The Carols is such a big event with heaps of locals, music and fun.

"In a world that wants polarisation and division, we want to celebrate our ‘Common Unity.’

"The Carols is an opportunity for all people to come together and celebrate Jesus. Pretty cool!”

Hope Church 2508 Pastor John Janman said the event provides meaningful connection for many.

“I’m excited that the Gospel can be shared and that we have a prayer tent available throughout the evening. Anyone who wants prayer has a place to go and people ready to support them.

"Working together with the other churches is awesome. The Carols is a great way to serve and connect with the community.”

Long-time local resident Vickie Crawley said the Carols have become a cornerstone of her family’s Christmas.

“For 13 years, the Combined Churches Carols in the Burgh have brought friends, neighbours and churches together in a spirit of unity. We love sharing picnic dinners, watching the kids play, singing carols and seeing the Scouts help as Santa’s helpers.

"It really marks the beginning of the Christmas season for us.”

The event is proudly supported by Wollongong City Council, Peabody, Tradies, The Tops, Symbio, and many other local organisations.

The combined churches warmly invite the entire 2508 community and surrounding areas to bring a picnic rug, gather with family and friends, and celebrate the joy and meaning of Christmas together.
