Council’s own tri-umph at the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals

Story by Wollongong City Council

Wollongong City Council’s Infrastructure Strategy and Planning Manager Nathan McBriarty and Personal Assistant Sile Crowe have made their colleagues proud at the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals.

Nathan competed on Thursday, 16 October in the Age Group Standard, while Sile competed on Friday, 17 October in the Age Group Sprint.

Both have been in training for many months for ahead of their moment on the world stage.

“What an opportunity it was to be a competitor in this world event that’s right on our doorstep here in Wollongong,’’ Nathan said.

“It was a hard race, but I was certainly given an extra boost when I saw my family, friends and colleagues cheering me along the way. It is these people that are the team that get you to that start line and who you couldn’t do this sport without.

“I’m certainly proud to be a competitor in this event that’s shining a spotlight on our city.’’

It has been a welcome experience for Nathan who, in his role at Council, is focused on ensuring the city’s roads, shared paths and related infrastructure are operating at their best for all our visitors from all over the world.

“Training for this event was pretty special being home turf, swimming in our harbour, running and riding on roads right across the city,’’ he said.

“It certainly gives another valuable perspective when it comes to plans for our future as Council continues its focus on supporting and facilitating active transport right across our city.’’

The intersection between work and personal life was also a motivator for Sile when it came to preparation for the Wollongong event.

She works alongside Nathan as a Personal Assistant and is respected by her colleagues for her attention to detail and determination to achieve her personal goals.

“I’ve been a regular in the race community for some time and I really enjoy the personal challenges that I set myself when it comes to competing in triathlons,’’ she said.

“This event has been a particularly special one as I’ve had an in-office training buddy and we can keep each other motivated towards our goals on those days when it can feel tough.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, and appreciate the support of all our Council colleagues who cheered us along the way.’’
