Switzerland has won the mixed relay team time trial with a time of 33:47 at the UCI Road World Championships.

Italy placed second (33:50), with Australia (34:25) managing a strong third. Germany (34:33) and race favourites, the Netherlands (34:39), rounded out the top five.

Sixteen teams entered the mixed relay team time trial, with three male riders from each nation’s team completing the first lap of the 14.1km circuit, then three women from each nation’s team did the same loop.

The event is a precursor to this weekend’s road races.

The September 22 public holiday to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s death is a training day for the UCI cyclists but Wollongong City Council's Spin Fest activities will be staged as scheduled around the region.
