From the company that brought Shrek The Musical to the IPAC in 2022, Disney’s Newsies JR is an action-packed trip to the streets of New York City!

Disney’s Newsies JR is an abridged version of the 2012 Broadway musical, inspired by the rousing true story of the newsboys strike in turn-of-the-century NYC.

When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right.

After the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR, Woods-Ray Theatricals are pleased to be presenting Disney’s Newsies JR as our next junior production. Featuring a cast all aged 18 and under, our junior productions offer the Illawarra’s finest up-and-coming young performers a chance to perform exciting musical productions in a safe and professional setting.

With a Tony Award-winning score from Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, a book from Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, and classic tunes such as “Seize The Day”, “Watch What Happens” and “Santa Fe”, Newsies JR is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.
