23 May 2024 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Wollongong Art Gallery 46 Burelli St Wollongong
https://events.humanitix.com/dreaming-inside-volume-12-launch

Join Graham Ackhurst, author of Borderland, and Ngana Barangarai (Black Wallaby) project leader Aunty Barbara Nicholson for the launch of Volume 12 of Dreaming Inside: Voices from Junee Correctional Centre.

Dreaming Inside is in its twelfth year of producing anthologies of writing from First Nations inmates at Junee Correctional Centre, overseen by Aunty Barbara Nicholson with the aim to assist inmates in improving their literacy skills, and results in higher self-esteem, greater cultural awareness and an increased ability to understand their own feelings.

Special guest, Graham Akhurst is an Aboriginal writer hailing from the Kokomini of Northern Queensland. He is a Lecturer of Indigenous Australian Studies and Creative Writing at the University of Technology Sydney. He is a board member of FNAWN and Varuna. Graham is a contributing editor at Kweli Journal (NYC). He has been published in Kweli and J Journal for fiction and has been widely published in Australia and America for poetry and creative non-fiction. His debut YA novel, Borderland, was released in October 2023 with University of Western Australia Press. Graham was the recipient of the W.G. Walker Fulbright Scholarship, the Nomad Two Worlds Foundation Indigenous Arts Scholarship, and Australia Council of the Arts grants to support the completion of an MFA at Hunter College. He also has an Honours degree in creative writing and an MPhil in creative writing from the University of Queensland. He currently lives and works on Gadigal Country.

Entry by donation - registrations essential.
