On Sunday, 20th of October 2024, Walk4BrainCancer Wollongong will bring together the community raising awareness and fundraising for a brain cancer cure.

The annual Walk4BrainCancer event is the flagship initiative of Cure Brain Cancer Foundation (CBCF), Australia’s largest Foundation dedicated to funding critical early to mid-stage brain cancer research.

Participants include those that have been impacted by brain cancer through the loss of a loved one as well as brain cancer survivors and fighters, along with their loved ones, who will walk together in support of a cause that is close to their hearts with the mission to raise vital funds and awareness for brain cancer research.

The walk will take place at Beaton Park Athletics Track in Gwynneville, with wristband collection starting at 9:00am. Formalities will commence at approximately 9:50am, and the walk will start roughly around 10:20am. The event offers a flexible walk, where attendees can walk between 2 to 5km on the athletics track, completing as many laps as they wish, with 2km equivalent to approximately four laps.

The track is accessible to walkers of all levels and is suitable for both wheelchairs and strollers.

In addition to the walk, the day will feature family-friendly entertainment, including a sausage sizzle, food stall, coffee truck, ice cream van, DJ, jumping castle, face painting, cheerleading performance, and an exciting raffle with fantastic prizes to the value of over $10,000!

Walk4BrainCancer has become Cure Brain Cancer Foundation’s most important fundraising initiative. This year, CBCF aims to raise over $1.5 million to fund world-class brain cancer research, advocacy, and awareness programs, helping to accelerate the search for a cure.   Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children and adults under 40 in Australia. Despite these devastating statistics, brain cancer receives only a small fraction of federal government cancer research funding. The five-year survival rate for brain cancer has remained unchanged for over 30 years, with only 20% of those diagnosed surviving for five years or more.
