My favourite place to shop, Flame Tree Co-op in Thirroul, recently put on a party. The place – Wombarra Bowlo. The purpose – to celebrate community and volunteerism during National Volunteer Week.
The event was organised by volunteers with the help of Flame Tree manager (and local musician) Dean Mastroianni. Performers included local bands The Numbered and Cloudbird. There was also a drum workshop.
The free community event was supported by generous donations, including the venue, all the performers, raffle prizes and silent auction sponsors. The money raised supplements the funds from the recent crowd-funding campaign.
Volunteer Rick Warr was one of the organisers, as well as a member of the Singogo choir who also performed on the day.
Rick said: “It was a joyful success with a diverse set of artists generously providing the afternoon’s entertainment under the Wombarra Bowlo marquee. [The event] left an appetite for bigger and better Flame Tree volunteer and community get-togethers to simply raise the level of fun and celebrate what people can do collectively.”
The last word comes from Fonzie of Happy Days via Rick, “organisations are not cool, people are”.
