On Monday, October 23, the Good Food Guide 2024 Awards were announced. Within the list, two of Wollongong’s finest restaurants received one ‘hat’ – Babyface Kitchen and Restaurant Santino. But let’s be real, anyone who has dinned at Franco’s Pizza knows they absolutely deserved to keep their hat from 2023. So let’s take a tour across Wollongong’s ‘hatted’ and should-be ‘hatted’ restaurants.
Babyface Kitchen
I have been here a few times and it’s more than a culinary destination, it is an experience. It was the first time I was introduced to ‘orange’ wine thanks to our waiter's expertise in wine pairing. Makes sense that the restaurant's principles are based on learning, sharing and curating exceptional experiences.
We’ve always gone with the Set Menu option and let the chef guide our meals. Everything is delicious!
Restaurant Santino
The decor in this restaurant is its best feature – and that is saying a lot because the food and cocktails are fantastic. It is reminiscent of the golden era, where art deco prints adorn the walls, creating an ambience that is both sophisticated and welcoming.
The service is incredible, with the waiters very happy to answer my many questions about the menu – wanting to try it all. I can also highly recommend the Dirty Martinis.
Franco's Pizza
Very dear to many who live in Northern Illawarra is Franco’s Pizza. The pizza from this restaurant got me and my partner through lockdown when they shifted to takeaways. I’ve also dined here many times and tried everything on the menu – sometimes just opting for the entrees or going all in on pizza.
I’m going to make a call – they serve the best pizza in Wollongong.
You can go here with the family, date nights or with friends. The relaxed vibe and elegant menu can cater to every occasion.
