Winter sports clubs are calling for registrations across the Illawarra. Which club is your child signing up for? Do they follow what their friends do? Guided by you? Or do they try a new sport each year? This is the first year that we've started enrolling my son into sports and it is tricky to choose the right sport. He has expressed interest in basketball but had no idea what the sport entailed. My partner is a mad NRL fan so we have signed my son up to Helensburgh Junior Rugby League Football Club (JRLFC) – so he'll be a Tiger this winter. It's difficult to navigate sport with little ones so I'm interested to hear what you all do and how you help your child choose.
Is rugby league the right choice for your child? To get a better understanding of how the local club works and the sport's benefits for kids, I interviewed Alicia Mingare, the secretary and registrar of JRLFC.
