Hello, Tuesday readers,
This week I spoke to Bulli photographer Chris Duczynski about his new joint exhibition with University of Wollongong photojournalist Paul Jones. Titled From the Deep, the exhibition combines Paul's imagery of traditional whale hunting in Indonesia and Chris's shots of Port Kembla's mighty cargo ships. Though a far cry from his usual aerial shots of the coast, Chris's latest work highlighting the scale of these vessels is just as impressive and worth checking out.
I also spoke with the Flame's resident coastal scientist Professor Rob Brander (aka Dr Rip), who was recently appointed Member of the Order of Australia. Read about his impressive career devoted to teaching the public about rip current safety and preventing drownings. While we were chatting, I asked him for his best tips on how to spot a rip and what to do if you ever find yourself caught in one – and it's a must-read for any beachgoer.
This week's Beach of the Week is the wonderful Woonona. Big thanks to Woonona SLSC President Kevin Crick for sharing what we need to know before we go.
Catch you later,
Caitlin Sloan
