Lake jet ski tours granted another season
Jet ski tours of Lake Illawarra are set to return in August 2026
Following a successful trial of jet ski tours on Lake Illawarra last summer, the NSW Government has granted approval for the tours to resume shortly.
The Play Hard Jet Ski Tours met opposition, particularly from environmentalists, when they first lodged plans to relocate their business from Sydney to Lake Illawarra early last year.
Following a six-month trial, a Transport for NSW spokesperson said “a thorough review had been conducted of the operator’s business, with a focus on compliance and amenity matters.
“Environmental considerations were addressed through the relevant development approval process undertaken by Council.
“No complaints were received, and no issues with waterway management or compliance were identified through the review.”
The spokesperson said a further exemption order was now in place, allowing the tours to continue until June 2027. According to the Play Hard Jet Ski website, bookings for tours will resume on 20 August.
The conditions of approval include a maximum of four jet skis participating in tours – including the tour guide – and the craft must not exceed 55km/hr.
