5 of the best toy shops around

We're just about to finish present season in our family. From early August to early February we have everyone's birthdays and two Christmases. All year long, I squirrel present ideas away, waiting for this moment. Then it comes to a mad dash at the end. Why?

We have so many fantastic toy stores and treasure shops around us that I could be buying and hiding presents while I am on off season.

Below are my favourite shops to go present buying for the kids:

  • Dreams and Memories, Bulli – I have bought just about everything from this shop, from Ninja Turtle pillows to used dolls in good condition. This place has unique treasures that you didn't even know your child needed.
  • Casey's Toys, Wollongong – Hosts all your commercial toys that kids will see on YouTube. It is my one-stop shop for the essential presents.
  • Early Start Discovery Space's Gift Shop – You'll already feel like a better parent shopping in this gift shop. They have everything educational, interactive and stimulating for a variety of ages.
  • Starfish Store, Shellharbour – Again, a one-stop education shop but by an Illawarra local, Kirstie Wishart. They cater for different ages and abilities, covering items for teaching language/literacy, mathematics and science. Plus games and toys for infants and fun board games for the family.
  • Berry Sweet Treats & Ice Creamery, Berry – I know it isn't a toy shop but my golly do they have a fantastic range of sweet and savoury treats – from local and overseas suppliers. Not for the health-conscious parents, but it is such a good present filler. It is basically Willy Wonka's Factory in there.
