Focus Tutoring was named Champion Tutoring at the 2023 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards on Saturday, September 23 at the Western Sydney Conference Centre. More than 1000 people attended the awards, which attracted 2000 entries across 30 different categories.
Focus Tutoring provides high-quality group tutoring for Year 11 and 12 Chemistry, Biology and Physics. This is done in a group environment that fosters a love of learning by giving students the skills they need to succeed academically. We can also accommodate individual mathematics lessons run by an experienced tutor.
Focus Tutoring began in 2018, run by myself (Teagan) and assisted by my husband Rhys, offering tutoring classes for Year 12 Chemistry, Biology and Physics. The business is run out of our home-classroom, which is a renovated double garage, and resembles a comfortable classroom, with painted walls, blue carpet, large student's desks, a whiteboard, and a teacher table with a computer. Classes are run from Monday to Thursday, 4-8pm at the home classroom in Cordeaux Heights.
The vision at Focus Tutoring is to empower and inspire students to achieve their full potential through personalised, engaging, and effective tutoring services.
Our philosophy is to provide high-quality, group tutoring services that are tailored to each student’s unique learning style, goals and challenges. We aim to build students' confidence, motivation and independence by fostering a love of learning and helping them develop the skills they need to succeed academically, all in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Focus Tutoring was initially established to fulfil a need in the community for quality science education and to fulfil my personal goals of providing such quality education.
I am a qualified Science Teacher, but the shift into paperwork and administrative tasks quickly started to impact my love of the job, so I took time to assess what science teaching means to me. This led me to create a business where I was able to do what I was passionate about, which was teaching science and inspiring my students by showcasing a genuine love of learning.
This win would not have been possible without the continual support from my husband, Rhys, and I cannot thank him enough for all his support and encouragement.
My son Eric is a continual source of inspiration and motivation and I love being a positive role model to him.
My biggest thanks goes to my students and their families. Without them, I wouldn’t have my business. They are my biggest supporters and are consistently filled with encouragement and kind words.
