Dive into summer with the Wollongong beach binge!

Wollongong City Council release: 22 September 2023

From Saturday 23 September, red and yellow flags will be up at all 17 patrolled beaches in our city – from Stanwell Park to Windang.

This swim season we’re encouraging people to do the Wollongong beach crawl. So, between now and Sunday 28 April 2024 you’ve got 17 of the most stunning beaches in the Illawarra to tick them off your list.

That’s 31 weekends, so you’ve got loads of time! You could even swim at each beach three times between now and the end of the season.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that Council was expecting lots of people to flock to the beaches this summer.

“We live in a great part of the world with some of the most beautiful beaches, so it’s no surprise that our beaches are popular. Not only does our community love our beaches, but so do the people who travel from southern and western Sydney in search of a sea breeze,” Cr Bradbery said.

“With this in mind, we’re putting the challenge to all beachgoers to explore all 17 of our patrolled beaches. If you think that’s too easy, you can all also add our 9 unpatrolled rock pools, 9 patrolled freshwater saltwater pools to the bucket list this summer.

“The most important thing to remember is to plan your visit and add a little extra travel time to your journey. Where possible, consider public transport or kiss and drop family and friends at the beach before finding a park a little further away.”
