Our most local meat producer, direct from paddock to consumer, is the pork and lamb that comes from the farm at Green Connect in Warrawong. In the Thursday newsletter's first edition in September I reported on Green Connect, but in relation to the production of fruit and vegetables from this urban farm.
I mentioned the pigs that are used to clear some of the veggie growing plots. These free-ranging pigs, along with the sheep, live a great animal life, roaming through fresh pastures and feasting on leftover produce. They help to manage the marginal land and are a great tool for teaching visitors that animals can be farmed in ethical and integrated ways.
Multiple times a year, Green Connect sells fresh range pork and lamb packs to the community. They come via Lachy and the team at Cleaver & Co. You can find out more here.
