Scarborough Public School P&C press release: November 2021
As you might have heard, the Scarborough Public School P&C have once again had to cancel their beloved Art Show due to Covid-19 restrictions. Traditionally held on the beautiful clifftop grounds of Scarborough Public School in October, and organised entirely by Scarborough P&C volunteers, the Art Show acts as a vital and sole fundraising activity and is a cultural magnet for the local and wider community.
Fundraising profits from the Art Show have been used by the school’s P&C to provide generations of Scarborough PS students with unique learning and extra-curricular experiences. In 2020 and 2021 the P&C managed to contribute funding towards an ambitious whole-school Art Education program, which has been established and driven by acclaimed local artist, educator and parent Gabrielle Adamik. It is rare for public school students in NSW to receive such extensive Art Education and so the P&C have been delighted to be able to offer the kids this wonderful opportunity...and they love it!
The cancellation of the art shows has unfortunately meant the P&C could not generate the funds needed to ensure the future of their ground-breaking Art Education program, so they have come up with a solution they hope will save the day and keep art alive at this small public school.
Between the Mountains and the Sea is an art book publication showcasing Northern Illawarra artists and aptly titled with an evocative line taken from the school song. A beautiful printed catalogue to keep and browse or give to friends or family with artworks for sale from some of the area’s most prominent and beloved local artists.
The P&C has invited over 40 local artists to display their work in a specially printed Art Book as well as on a dedicated website exhibition, through which all art will be available for purchase using a neat QR code system. The Scarborough School P&C will also run a convenient local art delivery service, delivering beautiful purchases straight to your door. Acclaimed artists such as Tanya Stubbles, Diana Wood-Conroy, Ashley Frost, Anthea Stead, Heather Froome, Anh Nguyen, Christine Hill, Nikki Main and many more have agreed to sell their art in this little book.
All profits from art-sale commissions will be used by the Scarborough P&C to support the future of the School’s Art Education program – literally saving our children’s Art Education with art!
Launching on 10th December, buy your art online at www.scarboroughart.com or find the book to take home in person for a $10 donation in local shops and cafes in Bulli, Thirroul, Austinmer, Coledale and Stanwell Park. You can also follow the project on social media.
The Scarborough P&C would like to thank you in advance for supporting their children’s education and the amazing local artists!
