Spring has sprung and there is an abundance of produce from all corners of the country. Why not take advantage of the bumper crops coming from some of our local growers and get what you can with the lowest of food miles? Here are some options.

Green Connect

Spring came early according to farm manager Emily Henderson. Along with winter veg such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and pumpkin, expect to see summer veg soon, such as zucchini, cucumber, eggplant and capsicum. Apart from the ever-popular leafy greens and herbs, find out what else is available in their fruit and veg boxes on their website.

Dapto Community Farm

The farm is always a hive of activity with passionate market gardeners tending their organic and chemical free vegetables. Check out the farm gate market every Monday morning – rain, hail or shine – and load up your basket with fresh produce just out of the ground. Also available are healthy seedlings for the home grower.

Popes Produce

You can support Sarah Anderson’s small-scale market garden by purchasing a subscription to share in the Woonona abundance. Or if you are a budding (sorry) home gardener, why not learn from an expert at one of Sarah’s workshops or as a Popes Produce volunteer. As Sarah says, “we’re all about getting dirty and eating fresh”.

Glenbernie Orchard

Get excited because Jo Fahey and the team are gearing up for a bumper stone fruit season come November. If past years are anything to go by, the yellow and white peaches and nectarines will be snapped up. In the meantime, apples are still available from the online shop for farm-to-door delivery, from the orchard shop or Flame Tree Co-op in Thirroul.

Moonacres Farm

Phil Lavers and the team at Moonacres Farm are having a short hiatus, having harvested all the winter veg from the fields. Over the next few weeks planting will begin for harvesting from November. When available you can find their produce outside Moonacres café in Robertson on Saturday mornings.
