Visitors will be checking out more than the recently arrived John Travolta Boeing 707 during June Tarmac Days at HARS Aviation Museum this coming weekend, Friday 12th to Sunday, June 14.

President of the Historical Aviation Restoration Society (HARS), Bob De La Hunty, said in addition the airworthy former RAAF marine patrol AP-3C Orion and Berlin Airlift DC-4 would be open for inspection.

In addition, a Neptune bomber will be conducting engine runs while pilot training will present an opportunity to see both the Iroquois H and B model “Huey” helicopters in action.

“John Travolta’s Boeing 707-138 preparation work is underway in our main hangar so visitors can check out how our team is preparing this former Qantas jet for its full assembly later this year,” Mr De La Hunty said.

“The Orion will be positioned in front of the Boeing 747 in our leased area close to the new BBQ area that will be operating on Saturday and Sunday with delicious hamburger and other delights available with seating around the 747 for an unique experience – where else can families do that!”

Other aircraft open for onboard viewing include the Convair 440 in TAA livery and Connie, the world’s only flying Lockheed Super Constellation.

Over the Tarmac Days JetFlight will be operating its Albatross Jet adventure flights and upstairs above HARS Aviation Museum, and open for guided tours, is an impressive Australian Aviation Hall of Fame area.

Walking through the double delivery record-holding former Qantas Boeing 747-400 is always a visitor highlight, as is inspection of the beautifully restored “Southern Cross” which is a full-size replica of the Fokker tri-motor FV11B which Kingsford Smith and crew used to make the first crossing of the Pacific Ocean from America to Australia in 1928.

While open for guided tours every day the monthly Tarmac Days allow HARS volunteers to operate and open additional aircraft for inspection.
