Helensburgh Tennis Club seeks the next Ash Barty

Helensburgh Tennis Club's president and secretary, Patrick Tracy, is excited to get the club up and running again, with lessons for everyone from preschool age and up, plus tennis camps in the school breaks.

Tell me about Helensburgh Tennis Club.

Helensburgh Tennis Club has a new committee who have elected a new president/secretary (me! Patrick Tracy) and VP/treasurer, John Potter. Our goal is to make playing tennis more accessible and enjoyable.

We have set up a website for online booking and a Facebook group called Helensburgh Tennis Club, which is open for anyone to join. We are encouraging people to become yearly members to support the club.

It costs $6000 a year just to register the club, and court hire/membership alone covers nowhere near that amount. Therefore, we will be seeking sponsorship, donations and grants to go towards maintaining and upgrading the club and its facilities.

What lessons or programs do you offer for kids under 12 years old?

Lessons are available for preschoolers through to adults. We offer Preschool Hot Shots classes for our littlest tennis stars. Qualified Tennis Australia coaches run engaging, games-based coaching programs. Our goal is to help kids create a life-long enjoyment of physical activity and healthy living. Tennis is a unique sport as it can be enjoyed by players from 2 to 99 years!

How often are the lessons and camps?

Lessons are held weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

Tennis camps are available every school holidays and are open to all school-aged kids with all playing levels and abilities are catered for. Tennis camps are a great way to introduce kids to tennis in a fun and safe environment.

What capabilities would you expect from the kids?

Kids are welcome to start tennis lessons whether they are beginners with no experience at all through to advanced tournament-level players. We supply all equipment at coaching and provide pathways for kids on their tennis journey.

Why would you recommend parents send their children to the tennis club?

We would recommend parents encourage their children to play tennis at their local club for the fantastic health benefits and social interactions that the sport offers. We may even have the next Ash Barty living in town!
