Who will wear the crown? Find out this Sunday as Ocean Queen Surf Classic debuts at Woonona

Don't miss the Ocean Queen Surf Classic this Sunday, May 5, at Woonona Beach!

The Illawarra's first all-women invitational surf event will showcase the region's hottest talents as they compete for the illustrious crown.

Contest director Kirby Mowbray said that organisers were expecting a pretty fierce day of competition due to a stacked lineup of competitors and a generous prize pool.

"We've got a lot of very good surfers excited to compete and keen to be part of the day," she said.

"We've been overwhelmed by the support provided by our amazing sponsors and are so happy to be able to provide a platform like this for our local talent."

Spectators will also be treated to a heritage heat featuring world champion Pam Burridge and other local surf legends, including Jenny Gill and Yvonne Turner.

"Come down, grab a coffee or some food from one of the local food trucks. We've got a DJ, art, and even ice baths. There will also be a presentation and after-party from around 5pm in the surf club," Kirby said.

The action starts with a smoking ceremony at 7am, followed by heats at 7:30am.

"The surfing should be insane, so it's a day you shouldn't miss," she said.
