Be it a Saturday or Sunday and even on weekdays, the Illawarra buzzes with lively, family-friendly markets. It’s a great opportunity to engage with your local community and encounter new people, sights, sounds and tastes. With the warmer weather ahead, take your pick from my favourite local markets below. Bring a blanket, soak up some sunshine and enjoy the atmosphere.
1. Warrawong Markets
This no-frills market is on every Saturday down by Lake Illawarra. Enjoy the best local bargain-hunting around. Tables and tarps full of treasures (and some trash) to explore. We found a $5 Frozen skateboard for my daughter there!
2. Coledale Markets
On every 4th Sunday of the month, this market is at Coledale Public School. With second-hand clothes for kids and adults, books, local produce and gifts, this market has it all. Even performances from local bands. The playground is currently under construction but this market is still a great time waster for the kids while you enjoy some food and tunes.
3. Bulli Foragers Markets
Monthly market based at Bulli Showground. Stalls focus on handmade, homemade and locally sourced produce – my go-to if I need to purchase a gift for someone.
4. Berry Farmers Markets
Avoid the weekend crowds and visit Berry’s Farmers Markets. Open every Thursday at 2pm, this is one of my favourites, with a beautiful family vibe. You can read more about my experience at these markets here.
