This week I feature a local Cringila family who observe Ramadan. I talk to them about their arrival from Syria and integration into the Illawarra, as well as the importance of sharing food at this holy time of year. I also share their recipe for chicken kabsa.

I share part of my own family's food culture growing up in the 1970s with recipe books from the Australian Women’s Weekly, which have been studied extensively by the c. I asked Lauren about her thoughts on cookbook annotations, their significance and if she has a favourite Women's Weekly cookbook.

We celebrate a couple of wins at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show, talk briefly about chestnuts (a notable omission from last week’s deep dive into Australian nuts) and revisit the crowdfunding campaign for Flame Tree Co-op.

Enjoy,

Susan Luscombe
