A team of vision-impaired riders and their friends took part in the Ride4Rotary around Flagstaff Point last Sunday to help raise money for Southern Youth and Family Services.

“We are in a volunteer group called Exsight, which gives blind people the opportunity to exercise, socialise and enjoy the outdoors, which they really appreciate,” said Rowan Huxtable, one of the riders.

A charity founded in the Illawarra in 2008, Exsight has a small fleet of tandem pushbikes and ebikes. It organises rides most days of the week.

“We are looking for sighted volunteers to captain our tandems. It is not a set time commitment – you can just do the rides when it suits you. It has been very rewarding for me," Rowan said.

Ride4Rotary took place on Sunday, 13 September as part of the final day of the annual Ride Wollongong festival of cycling at Lang Park. It is an annual family-friendly fundraiser organised by Rotary and Southern Youth and Family Services.
