What's in season in June
Why don’t you buy your apples from our award-winning local supplier Glenbernie Orchard?
Fruit
How can you go wrong with staple winter fruits – apples, pears and citrus?
Navel oranges are delicious – eat them whole rather than juicing them, as that way you get the benefit of the whole fruit. Lemons, limes and ruby grapefruit are plentiful. Blood oranges and the cara cara variety will come in soon. Mandarins are also good. Watch for the less popular but equally delicious tangelos (mandarin/grapefruit hybrid) and pomelos (largest member of the citrus family). Papaya from Far North Queensland is plentiful and cheap.
Apples of all varieties are at their peak at this time of year, as are pears.

Vegetables
Winter is vegetable time with great quality broccoli, cauliflower and cabbages. It hasn’t been a great season for brussels sprouts so they may be scarce and expensive but silverbeet and kale are in good supply. Potato season is approaching and carrots are coming from the southern states. It’s not a good time for onions though.
For local veg availability, check out the Green Connect blog. There is an abundance of veg goodness coming out of this small farm in Warrawong.
Also on the local front, Dapto Community Farm gate market is on every Monday morning from 9am.
