The UCI 2022 Road World Championships were off to a sunny start on Sunday 18 September, with the women's elite individual time trials first up.
The rainbow jersey went to Dutch cyclist Ellen van Dijk, who triumphed in a time of 44:28.60 – beating Australian Grace Brown by just over 12 seconds.
Tobias Foss became the first Norwegian to win gold in the men's time trials. His time was 40:02.78.
Both men and women rode the same 34.2km course around the city, starting on Market Street and finishing on Marine Drive.
It was the first time in UCI Road World Championship history that men and women athletes have ridden the same distance on the same day.
