Cider Sunday: Good vibes and sunshine

On Sunday, we joined the many folks looking to spend their last day of leisure lazing around, listening to good music and drinking cider at Glenbernie Orchard. It was humid in that way that February often is; sticky, the air thick. But if you got in exactly the right spot, at exactly the right time, you might catch a hint of cool breeze and that was my plan as I secured a spot to roll out the picnic rug while my husband went to buy us some nachos from one of the two food trucks on-site.

These Cider Sunday events are pretty loose. You bring your own seat and shelter (which just needs to be pegged down) or a picnic rug like us, if you’re not big on planning and always decide to do things last minute. The only real hard-and-fast rule is to not bring in your dogs, which is fine as the orchard has a supply of farm dogs on hand, who are happy to roam around saying hello and snaffling up any dropped snacks.

Cameron Little was playing when we arrived, up on the back of a truck parked to one side. His brand of acoustic music was the perfect accompaniment to the afternoon. Unfortunately, we missed Brittany May Music but after the morning exploring Maddens Falls, which is literally just across the road (trust me, cross that tarred path and see what’s on the other side), we were feeling suitably sleepy and wanting to get out of the sun.

We can’t resist the Apple Shack and ducked in, grabbing some organic honey and apples, freshly picked from the on-site orchard before leaving as people behind us toasted one another, kids blew bubbles and ran around wildly and the farm dogs looked for pats and love from anyone who'd give it.
