Transport for NSW media release: 25/09/2025
The community is advised Garie Road in the Royal National Park is reopening at around midday today.
The road has been closed for more than two years while the complex and difficult job of rebuilding it after a series of landslips has been carried out.
Garie Road was severely damaged by historic levels of rainfall in 2022 and closed for Transport for NSW to carry out essential repairs.
The completed work means the road is stronger than before and now has greater resilience to future significant weather events.
The upgrade took longer than expected due to ongoing wet weather and the continuing movement of the land around Garie Road.
Transport for NSW also collaborated with National Parks and Wildlife Service on repairs to the Garie Beach SLSC car park, with patching and line marking completed in time for the opening of the surf patrol season.
Garie Road is a vital artery for residents of the Little Garie Shack community, the surf club and visitors, providing access to one of the region's most treasured beaches.
Transport for NSW thanks the community for their patience.
