Barry Thompson reports
Our third round of the club championships started in a drizzle and ended in a deluge with six drenched players forced to leave the course.
Dave Hill bested the seven remaining contestants with a 67 card off a 27 handicap. Dave Tipping (67 off nine) came in second on count-back, also defeating Dave Astill four and three to become our 2026 Match Play Champion. Congratulations Dave! Gavin Sinclair took out third place with a nett 70 off a 23 handicap.
Our winners will visit Cameron at Coastal Country Meats and Gallardo’s Pizzeria to collect their rewards. Presso Terry Maney won the Bucket of Balls voucher for the second month in a row – hope that helps your game, Terry!
Our presentation night will be at Tradies from 6pm on Saturday, November 28. Please let Mick or Rod know by November 25 if you will attend.
Our next outing is at Boomerang on Saturday, November 14, 7am tee-off. Please arrive early.
The season’s finale – our annual Loud Shirt Charity Day in aid of NINA – will be on December 12 at Boomerang. Bring a lot of spare change!

Our HSSGC end-of-season banquet at Red Nectar is on December 6, so book your seat with Tony.
Our October outing was baffling to many: winners were determined by collecting the lowest highest score of a pair of golfers to reveal the winner of 2-Man Irish Stableford: 1st place Blake & Nathan (27 points), 2nd place Scott & Ben (26) and 3rd place Gary & Dave (23). Away from Irish confusion Andrew Hodge, now the handicapper’s focus, blasted 43 to win the singles event. Dylan Nigro returned and Tim Lowe was back again.
NTP’s rewards went to Gary on the 3rd, Peter G on the 7th and 9th, Mark O’C, Indy and Ben came closest on the 10th, 14th and 18th. Drive and Pitches went to Nathan (x 2), and Blake O’C. Longest Drive(s), Ross “C” grade, Dave Morris “A” Grade with the no-hopers “B” graders. A snack for the drive home went to Dan and Hodgey in the teams and Frank Morgan by default.
HSSGC returns on November 8 (8am) and December 6 (8am). Thanks to sponsors Christian’s Premium Meats and Helensburgh Golf Driving Range.
Call Tony (0418 863 100) to register attendance etc on the Tuesday before our next event.
Indy signing off: An Irish caddie’s comment as the ball flew into the rough… “If the ball was wrapped in bacon, Lassie couldn’t find it.”
