Meet Stephanie Thompson, the Bravemumma founder who wrote ‘The Day My Vagina Broke’

Illawarra local Stephanie Thompson is the author of the poignant memoir The Day My Vagina Broke and the founder of Bravemumma

A courageous and compassionate advocate for women's health, Stephanie has sparked a movement to empower women and ensure they receive the support and education they need during childbirth.

Stephanie's personal journey and unwavering determination to create change have made her a beacon of hope for countless women.

Stephanie Thompson's book, The Day My Vagina Broke, is a candid and deeply personal account of her traumatic childbirth experience. Originally written as a therapeutic exercise and never intended for publication, the book delves into her disillusionment with natural childbirth advocacy and the lack of options and support she met in the hospital.

The decision to publish her book was a difficult one for Stephanie, a naturally private person. However, she felt compelled to share her story because she didn't want other women and couples to suffer in silence. Plus, she recognised the potential impact her story could have in helping other people who may feel alone in their struggles.

"I didn’t want the whole world knowing about my broken vagina, however, if I didn’t share it then there might be future generations who don't feel seen or supported," Stephanie said.

Stephanie founded the community-driven platform Bravemumma after publishing her book.

"Bravemumma was the birth of the brave new era of women advocating for themselves and others who don't feel confident. This book was the seed that planted a change," Stephanie said.

Bravemumma encourages women to share their stories and advocate for their own health and wellbeing during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. It harnesses a collective desire to ensure future generations of women would not have to endure the same hardships.

Through her various channels and advocacy, Stephanie's goal is to promote change within the healthcare system. She urges women to dig deep, advocate for themselves and take control of their childbirth experiences.

She also highlights the need for medical professionals to listen to and respect women's concerns during this vulnerable time.
