It was a big weekend of events in the Illawarra, with fantastic weather for them too. Finally! I hope you found a chance to get out and enjoy the sunshine.
If you did, you might’ve seen a few thousand cyclists on the final stretch of their ride from Sydney to Wollongong. I spoke to the CEO of MS Plus, John Blewonski, about the return of the MS Gong Ride after three years of cancelled events. This year marks the fundraising ride's 40th anniversary and the addition of a new inclusive event in Wollongong’s centre.
Also on the weekend: Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) Shellharbour held a two-day festival and Surf Life Saving Australia's National Awards of Excellence recognised those who keep us safe on our beaches – including the Wollongong City lifesaver who took out the top gong.
Starting in the north, our new 'Beach of the Week' series takes a look at the fabulous Stanwell Park Beach.
Here’s hoping this weather sticks around.
Catch you later,
Caitlin Sloan
