This week is the lead-up to the important annual Hindu celebration of Diwali, the festival of lights, which is next Monday, 24 October. In today's newsletter, I take the opportunity to look at Sri Venkateswara Temple in Helensburgh and what they are doing to celebrate. For your own Diwali celebrations, there are several great Indian restaurants in the Illawarra you can visit, or cook your own chana dahl from the recipe of the week. Do check out Spice Corner in Fairy Meadow, your one-stop-shop for all Indian-style groceries.

Today, we also honour two local foodie businesses recognised at the 2022 Illawarra Business Awards.

And I attend and report on the Connecting Over Fair Food event at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation campus.

Happy Diwali!

Susan, the Thursday editor
