Happy 2023! I hope your summer break was refreshing and provided plenty of opportunities to relax by the beach.

In the first Beach Life newsletter of the year, I chat to Beth Robrahn, Illawarra Bicycle Users Group (iBUG) president, about why your favourite scenic bike ride should become more than a hobby. After Wollongong City Council's pop-up cycle routes established ahead of last year's UCI Road World Championships proved popular, iBUG have decided to organise a few of their own. This Saturday, January 21, a cycleway will pop-up for attendees of the highly anticipated Illawarra Folk Festival in Bulli, followed by a pop-up family fun ride on Saturday, January 28, from Beaton Park to Lang Park. Read on to find out how and why you should tag along.

The family-friendly summer activities don't end there as Shellharbour City Council is preparing to deck out its pools with an inflatable obstacle course and the Wollongong Youth Services team is stocking up on snacks and giveaways to give out at local pools. See our list for dates and locations.
