Kites soar by the sea at Thirroul festival's new family picnic day

Family Kite Day took off for the first time at 2025's Thirroul Seaside & Arts Festival, with rainbows and ribbons flying high against blue winter skies last Saturday.

People of all ages, from children to grandparents, brought their kites along for a sunny day of family fun at Thirroul Beach Reserve on May 31. Children made their own colourful creations for free with Coogee Kite Magic. Some seized the chance to run around on the grass, kite in hand, while others relaxed and watched on from their picnic blankets.

Austinmer-Thirroul Lions Club put on a sausage sizzle and Ken’s Cones ice-cream van took care of dessert.
