Haven't had your say on the Liquorland application? Seize your last chance.

The Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA) has opened a further and final submission period for the community to give feedback on the application for a packaged liquor licence for Liquorland in Helensburgh.

Anyone who wishes to do so may make an additional submission by midnight on Sunday, 1 May 2022, the ILGA has announced.

"At the conclusion of this submission period no further submissions will be accepted from members of the public. Submissions should be made via email to ilga.secretariat@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au," ILGA states.

The final submission period follows a public meeting at Tradies Helensburgh on April 4, when the prospect of Helensburgh getting another liquor shop in the centre of town was overwhelmingly condemned by community speakers (read 'Community rallies against Liquorland').

On 19 April, a spokesperson for the NSW Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority, told the Illawarra Flame that "the meeting was an important opportunity for members of the local community to express their views and raise concerns" about the proposal for a new Liquorland store in Helensburgh.

"Issues covered at the meeting included social and health impacts of an additional retail liquor outlet in the suburb, noise and amenity issues associated with the proposed site, community safety and policing issues, and whether the proposal would facilitate the balanced development, in the public interest, of the liquor industry," the ILGA spokesperson said.

"A total of 297 written submissions have been received from members of the public.

"The applicant will be invited to comment on these submissions, as well as matters raised at the meeting.

"All submissions will be published on the Liquor & Gaming Applications Noticeboard for a further seven-day submission period before the Authority makes a final decision."

On 22 April, in a letter to stakeholders, the ILGA said: "All submissions received in respect of the application for a packaged liquor licence for Liquorland in Helensburgh have now been published on the Liquor & Gaming NSW website

"All submissions received to date will be considered when ILGA makes its determination. There is no need to make any further submission unless there are new matters to be raised outside of what was covered in previous written submissions, or in any verbal submissions made at the Helensburgh public meeting on 4 April 2022."
