Dear Editor,
I live in Helensburgh and have almost run out of little green liners for my Fogo bin which was placed on my verandah when the council decided they would like to begin this service.
I rang the council to see if I could get replacement bags to be told, yes, you can come to the council chambers in Wollongong and collect them.
As I am an elderly pensioner this is not easy. I would maybe suggest that the local library is also run by Wollongong Council – maybe they could place a few boxes of these green bags there for residents to use when they need them replaced.
Thank you,
Dorothy Patton, Helensburgh
Wollongong City Council’s response:
Wollongong City Council is supplying liners to residents through Helensburgh and Dapto libraries, Thirroul Community Centre, the Customer Service desk at Council’s Admin Building and Remondis branch office in Unanderra. Wollongong Local Government Area (LGA) residents may collect up to two free FOGO liner rolls from Council a year.
FOGO bin liners are optional and residents can put food and garden waste directly into their FOGO caddy and wash the bin in-between use.
Another option for residents is to purchase FOGO liners at a supermarket or hardware store. Just be sure to check if your liners display the AS 4736 code and seedling as these are compostable.
For more information see our Compostable Liner Guide or information about Council’s FOGO service at FOGO - Wollongong Waste.
