Night closures on the M1 Princes Motorway and Picton Road

Transport for NSW Traffic Alert: 29 April 2026

Motorists are advised of upcoming night closures for maintenance work on the M1 Princes Motorway between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive as well as Picton Road.

Work will include routine road repairs, road resurfacing, fence repairs, vegetation maintenance, clearing gutters and drains, maintenance of safety barriers and litter collection.

Work on the Mount Ousley interchange will also be carried out, including removing and installing temporary barriers, repairing, relocating and installing signage, service investigations, earthworks line marking and drainage work.

During the work, the M1 Princes Motorway will be closed between Bulli Tops and Memorial Drive, and Picton Road will be closed between the M1 Princes Motorway and Almond Street at Wilton.

Closures will be in place between 8pm and 4am on Sunday 3 and 17 May 2026, weather permitting.

Picton Road eastbound will be closed from 7.30pm each night to ensure the M1 Princes Motorway is clear by 8pm.

Motorists travelling between Wollongong and Bulli Tops will be detoured via Memorial Drive and Bulli Pass and should allow up to 15 minutes of additional travel time.

Motorists travelling between Wollongong and the Hume Motorway will detour via Memorial Drive, Bulli Pass and Appin Road, and should allow up to 40 minutes of additional travel time. Light vehicles can also use Wilton Road at Broughton Pass between Appin Road and Picton Road.

Motorists travelling to the Hume Motorway can also detour via the Illawarra Highway at Macquarie Pass.

Heavy vehicles over 19 metres long and more than 50.5 tonnes will not be able to access Bulli Pass or Macquarie Pass and are advised to delay their journey.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.
