Program's visit has city all keyed for action
Filming of The Piano is one of Screen Illawarra’s many exciting events happening in coming months
Talented musicians will soon tickle the ivories in Wollongong as part of the latest series of ABC’s hit documentary The Piano.
Screen Illawarra chair Nick Bolton says an episode of The Piano – “that beautiful show on ABC where a piano is put in a public place” – will be filmed here in the not-too-distant future.
"So they [The Piano’s producers] did the call-out for contestants a few weeks ago; I haven't had shooting dates yet, but those will come in.”
Nick says filming of The Piano is one of Screen Illawarra’s many exciting events happening in the Illawarra and further afield in coming months.
“We've got all our usual array of educational events happening in terms of we've got a voice-over course with Kelly Jones," Nick said.
“We've got a scriptwriting session [Story to Script workshop] with Graham Thorburn from the South Coast Writers Centre [from 9am-11am on Saturday, September 26].
On Wednesday, August 12, in conjunction with advocacy group Screen Vixens, Screen Illawarra organised the first-time feature screening of Rebound, a Christmas romantic comedy, at Warrawong's Gala Cinema, and there are more movie nights to come.
“Creative Wollongong are re-running the short film festival on the 5th of September, again at the Gala Cinema, with a lot of our films involved.
“And we're also doing a partnership with Finding Fillmore’s down at Kiama; we’re going to start a monthly networking-slash-short film screening night at Finding Fillmore’s to support filmmakers further south down the coast.”
