Restoration expert hosts workshop to help you fix your furniture

“We all deserve a second chance” is the mission statement from German expat Britta de Laat, founder of dumped & ditched, a boutique upholstery, restoration and vintage furniture business located in the Illawarra.

With years of experience in furniture restoration, Britta’s passion lies in restoring family heirlooms so that they may continue to bring people together. With an extensive background in creative arts and set design from London and Berlin, traces and memories of the past have been quintessential throughout Britta’s career.

After retraining as an upholsterer, she turned to furniture restoration as her creative outlet, to combine her passion for design, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

In 2022 Britta starred as the furniture restorer on Foxtel’s The Repair Shop – Australia.

Britta knows well how with a little attention and care you can extend a piece of furniture’s life and make it shine, and now she wants to show you how.

On Saturday 24 June, and again on Saturday 19 August, Britta is opening the doors to her warehouse to teach timber restoration in a new series of intimate workshops.

The workshops aim to give people the basic skills they need for minor DIY restoration projects. Future workshops will include upholstery and machine sewing, however, this weekend it’s all about wood restoration, polishing and preservation.

On Saturday from 10am-4pm, the first workshop offers hands-on experience and knowledge of the fundamentals of wood restoration. Designed for you to bring your own projects, this workshop is perfect for anyone who would like to get their hands dirty while learning from an industry expert.

The course will cover everything from small, structural repairs to surface preparation techniques, including paint and finish removal.

Bookings are essential. Tickets are limited to give you, and your projects, the attention they deserve.
