Many clients are getting an email from Norton@Norton.com or similar claiming “Your PC might be unprotected, it can be exposed to viruses and other malware… “ then there is a button in the centre of the email labelled “Renew”.
DO NOT CLICK ON THE BUTTON.
The button will take you to a site that will infect your computer with a virus that the scammers then want your credit card details to remove. The “UNSUBSCRIBE” button at the bottom of the email takes you to the same site.
Do not believed any emails sent claiming your antivirus or security software is due for renew or out of date. Check the renewal date in the antivirus or security software itself.
Beware of callers claiming to be Telstra, Microsoft, Windows or Apple stating that your computer has a problem and they need to fix it. The call can come from any number both land line or mobile. The scammers are “ghosting” the phone numbers of real businesses. None of these companies will contact you direct unless you have first contacted them.
NBN will never contact you direct because the way NBN has been set up as an organisation it only deals with its resellers.
If you are having NBN issues contact your Carrier directly and they are responsible for having NBN rectify the issue. If they take longer that you feel is acceptable (two weeks would be too long) the contact the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman at www.tio.com.au or 1800 062 058.
