Screen Illawarra's Advanced Lighting workshop on April 20 was a success.

Glenn Hanns led the workshop, which was held from 10am-3pm at the Digital Media Centre in the Mike Codd Building at UOW's Innovation Campus. Glenn is an ACS-accredited cinematographer whose award-winning work spans narrative features, documentary and music clips.

The workshop was jam-packed with expertise drawn from his long career in the industry.

Glenn has 30 years of professional experience and has seen many ways of lighting an interview. Having shot thousands of interviews himself, he has come up with some tricks and tips to help filmmakers elevate their lighting skills. He's passionate about lighting and loves sharing his knowledge with others.

This Screen Illawarra workshop was aimed at people wanting to enhance their interview lighting skills. Our target audience was people interested in learning about filmmaking, as well as those who would like to work in the industry as a gaffer or cinematographer.

Glenn shared technical and aesthetic ideas to help make interviews look more professional.

Topics included:

How to use light meters

Lighting Ratios

Reflectance vs Ambient light readings

Key/Fill/Backlight, background light, kickers, eye light

Book lights,

Travel kits vs studio, location setups
