About 1000 green-and-gold fans packed Fairy Meadow’s Fraternity Club to cheer on the Socceroos in their second World Cup match early this morning

The 5am kick-off didn’t deter the diehard supporters who queued for coffees and egg and bacon rolls which helped them get through a disappointing first half.

Down 2-0 at the break after an Aussie own goal and a home team goal which appeared to be a metre offside, Tony Popovic’s men can be proud of their second-half performance in which they created the better chances but couldn’t find the back of the net.

The pace of the game seemed to get to everyone, including the referee who suffered cramps in injury time.

The USA, which is expected to go deep into this tournament, was held scoreless in the second half, and that will give the Roos confidence ahead of their final group game against Paraguay at noon on Friday, June 26.

Expect a lot of fans to be “working from home” at the end of this week as the Socceroos look likely to advance into the next phase of the Cup if they can earn a draw.
