Hey, Tuesday readers,
It’s no secret that the Illawarra's major drawcard is our coastline, with a string of scenic beaches spread out below the escarpment. After all, the name Illawarra is derived from the Dharawal word Allowrie, meaning 'where mountains look down on the sea'.
This coastline has boundless stories to share, and I’m delighted to start delivering those stories directly to your inbox each Tuesday.
With the weather warming and La Niña slowly subsiding as we head into summer, you can expect to read about all sorts of things happening on and near our beaches, as well as the brilliant people who serve our communities and keep us safe while we’re there.
This week we hear from Thirroul Surf Life Saving Club about the weekend’s second annual Dean Mercer Dash; Thirroul sculptor Sally Kidall, whose latest work, Bunker Down: Survival of the Fittest, is at Bondi’s Sculpture by the Sea; plus meet Monique McCullough, one of the newest members of Helensburgh-Stanwell Park Surf Lifesaving Club.
Catch you later,
Caitlin Sloan
