Hello, Tuesday readers,
This week we take a look at how you can get involved with the Disabled Surfers Association by volunteering at their upcoming Ocean Care Day on Saturday, December 3, at Thirroul Beach. DSA South Coast branch president Ian Picton runs through why you should come along and what it would mean for Saturday’s participants.
Having himself been involved with the Disabled Surfers Association for nearly three decades – including 27 years as branch president – Ian was also kind enough to give his top five accessible beaches in the Illawarra, many of which have had recent upgrades to disabled amenities.
We also meet the face behind Ecto Handplanes – a Bulli-based surf craft manufacturer led by Chris Anderson and his father Ron. Celebrating its 10th anniverary next year, the award-winning business began as an influential and unique university project. Read on to find out about Chris’s passion for sustainability and the lesser-known sport of bodysurfing.
Enjoy the sunshine and I’ll see you in summer (aka next week),
