Hello and welcome to Wednesday,
I spent a few days down the coast last week and ended up in a kayak. I'll try most things once but not sure I'll be jumping back in one anytime soon. You see, I have a disability and being in that kayak caused me a ridiculous amount of pain. I spent a few days feeling angry and frustrated with my body and then sad for all the things I can't do. But then I remembered, nature doesn't care how you appreciate it. You can go full bore at something, if that's what works for you, or you can meander along, taking each step at a time, which is what is working for me now. So lots of time to stop and smell the (wild) flowers.
I had a lovely chat with Illawarra Snake Catcher Glen Peacock, about his love of reptiles and how the whole family are now involved in the snake-catching business. Hearing about how his wife Pam overcame her fear of snakes will give lots of you hope, I'm sure. In Nature Notes this week, learn how you can join in the Aussie Bird Count, how to go Plastic Free and an upcoming meteor shower straight from Halley's Comet.
I hope that this week you can find a pace that works for you, and until next week,
I'll see you outdoors,
Amanda
