On Saturday, 21 October, the eastern section of the Wollongong CBD was handed over to the inaugural Culture Mix festival (previously Viva La Gong) and the streets were alive with the sights and sounds of multicultural Wollongong.

The event was free and included installations at the Art Gallery and Town Hall and several stages with music and dancing from all corners of the world. Stalls lined lower Crown St with food from all over, including Nepal, Serbia, Sri Lanka and Syria. The atmosphere was electric with dancing into the night at the Crown St and the Arts Precinct stages.

Strange and wonderful things happen when you get out and about. I watched the Tender choir, a local community choir open to all, and will now join them in their fortnightly practice. I love our community!
