WORK BEGINS TO UPGRADE MAJOR BULLI INTERSECTION
Following community feedback on the proposed traffic improvements at Bulli, work to upgrade the roundabout at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Memorial Drive will begin next week.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the $3.6 million upgrade will mark the start of a number of improvements planned to ease congestion in the area.
“This work marks the first stage of a broader package of work to be carried out following community consultation in June and July last year, where community feedback showed strong support for the roundabout upgrade,” the spokesperson said.
“We have listened to the community, who told us clearly they want improved traffic conditions in Bulli and in particular, this roundabout upgrade is a priority.
“The planned improvements will help alleviate congestion and reduce queueing on both the Princes Highway and Memorial Drive, particularly during peak times.”
Other work in planning includes changes in Bulli town centre near the train station, with a strong focus on delivering improved traffic flow and road safety on the Princes Highway as well as new parking options to offset any extended clearway hours.
Transport for NSW is also progressing plans to upgrade the intersections of the Princes Highway with Grevillea Park Road and Point Street.
The roundabout upgrade at Bulli is expected to take about six months, weather permitting.
Work will be carried out on weeknights from 8pm to 4am from Monday 7 February for the first two weeks, weather permitting.
Then the remaining work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 5pm, weather permitting.
Temporary concrete barriers will be installed on Memorial Drive along the right shoulder from the roundabout to the pedestrian overbridge, and single lane closures will be in place during the work.
During night work, the southbound on-ramp to Memorial Drive will be closed and detours will be in place via the Princes Highway through Woonona.
A reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will be in place during work for the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to allow five minutes of additional travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks road users for their patience during this time.
