Works for Corrimal Community Centre and Library
Corrimal District Community Centre and Library will temporarily close in May for planned maintenance works, with reopening anticipated in September 2026
Media release from Wollongong City Council: 17 April 2026
Almost 30 years since opening to the community, Corrimal District Community Centre and Library will temporarily close for planned maintenance works to ensure that this valued facility can continue to serve the community for decades to come.
To allow works to be carried out safely and efficiently, the Centre will be closed to the public from Monday 11 May, with reopening anticipated in September 2026. Corrimal Library will be closed from Friday 8 May.
The planned works include replacement of the ageing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, new hall flooring and dividing walls, upgraded lighting in the Library and Grevillea Hall, and refurbishment of toilet amenities.
Staff at Corrimal have been working with regular user groups to find alternative venues, and community members are encouraged to use one of Council’s other community spaces during the closure period.
Library customers are encouraged to reserve and collect items from one of Wollongong City Libraries’ other six locations, with the nearest libraries located at Wollongong and Thirroul. Customers can also take advantage of the service’s generous borrowing limits during the closure.
Wollongong City Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Works, Joanne Page said the planned, preventative approach taken by Council by coordinating multiple projects during a single closure minimises disruption, reduces long-term costs, and keeps community facilities safe, functional and fit for purpose into the future.”
“We prioritise the maintenance and renewal of community facilities by focusing on safety, accessibility and the services people rely on most,” she said.
Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said Corrimal District Community Centre and Library plays an important role in bringing people together and supporting learning, connection and wellbeing across the northern suburbs.
“We know this is a well-used community space, and these essential works will allow it to continue to be a place where people gather, learn and connect for many years to come.”
