The Illawarra was one of the wettest places in Australia last week. That fact was officially confirmed in the Bureau of Meteorology's 'Weekly Rainfall Update' released on Monday, June 10.
"Between 6 and 8 June, a low off the New South Wales south coast interacted with humid south-easterly flow, generating widespread rainfall and localised heavy falls across coastal and adjacent inland areas," the bureau reported.
"Across the Illawarra district, weekly rainfall totals exceeded 100mm, with isolated totals over 200mm. Some stations had June daily rainfall total records.
"Culburra Treatment Works (NSW) recorded the highest weekly total of 285.8mm, and the highest daily total of 187mm in the 24 hours to 9am on the 6th."
Silver linings have been recorded for anorak salespeople, gumboot makers and local roofers, with one small business telling the Flame they've gone from zero to hero and are booked out for three weeks.
Showers are predicted to return on Friday.
